Vacation 2014
Vacation the last two summers took us to Hawaii and Disney/Florida - this year, for many reasons - we're staying much more local. First things first, it's been a busy month since my last blog post: a visit down to the Shore to say our good byes to my father-in-law. In-laws are sneaky. I didn't really give them much thought 14 years ago (longer considering the pre-marriage dating time) - they just kinda come-along with the wife - but many years later you realize how big of a role they play in your life. I'll miss my father in-law. He was a good man and I am sad to see him go.
That episode started a busy end-of-school time for my children. After returning from 'the Shore' - we headed to central mass for a night of camping and then the kids were off to NH for Girls Scout camp. My wife and I had four nights to ourselves with no kids for the first time in 10 years. Highlights were eating out everynight - Giacomo's in the North End was a highlight. Not certain how they make a red pasta sauce taste like heaven by using lobster - but they do. After a week of no training in Jersey - I was good for 13.7 miles running and limited bike action.
This last week also had 3 runs - for 13.2 miles (hey, it's hot out) and 17 commuting miles. Also managed a swim down at a lake while visiting friends in Fairfield Ct. Forgot how awesome lake/ocean swims can be. I'll have to try and get some in up in Maine this week. Also need to plan on some runs - made it for a short 3.7 miler today - so a good start. Usually I bag it on vacation weeks - but I'm aiming to get 2 more in while i'm up there and maybe another one next weekend.
This blog isn't dead yet! I just think i'm getting more into a monthly groove and keeping the log more on the google-docs side of things.
