Rounded 4 Days

This week: swims Mon. Wend.; Hills Tuesday and a nice sub-8 5 miler today (39:20).  It felt like we're pushing, I was a little surprised the time wasn't better.  I guess that's getting old.  The swims were my last in my 8 week crash-course.  I managed 14 of the 16 swims - really only missing one.  This week I did the 75easy;25hard; 50e,25h,25e and so on for 800.  A tough swim.  Yesterday I did 200 easy; 1x100 hard; 200 easy; 1x100 hard.  Another tough one - 400 hard total for that swim.  That, and I've managed 8 straight hill workouts.  I'll likely miss Saturday's long run - but who knows?  Possible race Monday.

oh.  Happy Birthday Elena!  Amazing my baby is 6 years today.  I remember doing runs on *no* sleep about 5 years and 11 months ago.  A lot has changed in those years - but what an amazing kid she's growing up to be.

Last Week.

Finished off this last week with a 5 miler and a 7.4 trail yesterday - good for about 4.5 hours total for the week.  This coming week is my last 'normal' week in Groton.  I'll aim to get my last 2 swims in Monday/Wednesday - and the hill work Tuesday.  Maybe another nice run Friday.  Need to tie-up two more papers this week at work - maybe do a few more things.  Should be very quite since everyone's going to be up in Boston this week ('cept me).
The following week is move week - so this really is the last week of training.  Then I'll have 2 weeks after that where it'll be lite training - easy runs maybe a a swim here or there.  Gonna really miss this place.

The Last Lung Buster.

...at least for a while.  I did probably my favorite swim workout today.  After warmup:
2x50 fast
100 (breadth every 6)
2x50 fast
200 (breadth every 5)
2x50 fast
300 (breadth every 4)
100 cooldown.
The 2x50s get you (and keep you) breathing hard.  I almost feel as though I'll pass-out during the 100; then again on the 200.  The 300 is easier, but still hard - kind of winding down.  I'm not sure if this help lung capacity or not - but it's hard to imagine a workout testing the lungs like this one.  Did the hills Tuesday, and an easier swim workout Monday - as well as strength on Sunday.

Week 6!

I've actually been in the mist of an eight week training program - strength, hills, swimming and long runs.  This week hit a snag.  Short strength on Sunday; hills Tuesday; swim Wednesday - nothing Thursday/Friday (missed a swim); long run today - about 7 miles.  Still, not a total disaster.

One Week into May.

One week into the month of May - and I'm already thinking of June!  Twilight Trail Run is June 1st.  I'm actually guessing I'll miss this - but who knows?  Also may be giving a talk June 6th.  The first week of May went ok training-wise: Monday - swim; Tuesday - 8 miles trail+hils; Wednesday - 5 mile run; Friday - swim.  This weekend I skipped the 8 miler Saturday morning - but did manage my 30 minutes of strength training Sunday.  Today I did the same hills as last week - but over in the hood: (60;75;90)x2.  Tomorrow is probably a swim day.

Relo stress continues.  I have major paper stress with one due this week and another 2 slated to head out the door by the end of the month.  Athough this has already been a banner year:

May Day Hills

I worked from home today - then managed to head over to Haley Farm/Bluff Point.  It was so beautiful and vivid out after the rain that I decided on the 'long' loop - but once I hit a nice hill I went ahead and did the hill workout: (60;75;90)x2 - it actually felt easier on the rough hill - probably because the footing makes it impossible to go as fast as on a paved hill.  After the hill - I worked my way back to the Haley Farm parking lot.  Total run - 1 hour 9 minutes.  Probably about 8 miles.
