Hurricane Sandy

Have I mentioned that it's been really hard to get in a rhythm since the move?  I managed a strength session Sunday - and was smart enough to go for a quick jog afterward.  The jog was a new one - 1.7 miles - but I did it following 67 minutes of strength - I figure it's better than not jogging and emulates a longer run since I'm physically tired at the beginning.  Monday was the hurricane.  It was horrible.  Winds didn't seem so bad - but we lost 2 trees.  They're still dangling like the crane in NYC - causing me stress thinking that one of them will crash.  Having said that we've been very lucky compared to most.  Really in incredible storm when you think of it - hopefully a once in a lifetime experience.

Blogger Down!

I don't have much to say today - since I just blogged my runs yesterday.  I biked into and back from Kendall today - the hill back into Arlington is a little bit of a challenge - I always have my 'Rocky' moment when I get over it on the bike and across Rt.2.  Some evenings I get a lovely view into Boston - which this picture does no justice - but such is life.  I'll just have to trust myself that it was fantastic.  Anyway - a good 2 hours on the bike so far this week.  I don't like the return trip through Cambridge at rush hour though...

Nice October Runs.

The rains seem to have tapered-off, but works remained busy - so the last 2 weeks have been a little short on running mileage (10 and 11 respectively).  This week - inspired by some awesome fall weather - I'm going to aim for 4 runs.  It seems surreal to think that this time last year I was hitting over 30 miles and aiming for Philly; living in Mystic - now life is very so different - both at work and at home...

Nevertheless - I managed 4.5 with Larry around the bridges yesterday; and today I did one of my 3 runs in CambN - over to Davis Square and up to Tufts.  A week ago - I had a nice run over to Fresh Pond and then last Friday - I went up into Arlington.  I think the Arlington one is my favorite for a little extra mileage - since I can just push up the bike path.

Rain, rain...

Our new Boston weather gods are not being too nice this month.  To recap last week: I managed 3 runs: Davis from Alewife Monday (4 miles); Bridges Thursday (4.75) and Fresh Pond loop Friday (4.5).  I've biked in every day - rain or shine - for the last 5 weeks!  Unfortunately - it's been heavy on the rain and light on the shine.  This week, I was off Monday, did a run (Arlington ~5) Tuesday, Bridges Thursday - and should be able to do Fresh Pond or Arlington again today - although I'd like it if the rain clears.

Strength has been suffering - but that is more a function of busy weekends.  Hopefully I get a good one in this weekend.  Racing is still non-existent.  Intervals - not so much.  I'm basically just running to maintain an average level of fitness.  Maybe I can gear-up again next spring.
