Spring Hills

Last week larry and I got our first taste of spring hills - actually 1 week early. We did them on Wednesday: 45;60;75;75;60;45 - which is actually *not* one of the workouts in the Pfizer team training plan. I'm still not sure why we started it - but we'll probably go again this week. That workout was bookended by Monday/Friday runs of 4.3 and 5 miles - nothing very excrusiating. Well, Monday's run was very cold - all the runs have been cold. It's been in the 30/40s with lots of wind to chill us to our bones - not a pleasant March this year. Hopefully it'll warm up soon.

More blah weeks

Crap - work really can seriously mess-up your life. Last week I managed 2 runs from work for 10 miles - then did another 4 yesterday from home - during the 30 minutes I had while dinner cooked in the oven. 14 total - about 3 hours for the week when strength training is included. Wife went into meltdown mode today. Next few weeks'll be critical at work. If things smooth out I'll probably bail on the 1/2 and target the Twilight trail run and the Niantic bay 10k.

Time Slip Running.

I've been caught up in work-related stuff and family visits - which has lead to some inconsistent running. I did manage 18 miles over 3 runs the first week of March, but only did 8.5 last week: a 3.5 mile treadmill run at a hotel (why are these always hard?) and a 5 miler around the normal loop in the rain last Friday. I was too tired yesterday after the daylight savings time change - but headed out today for a fast 5: 37:36 - about a 7:31 pace for five miles. Great weather today - probably my best run in awhile. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow and Friday as well.

Raw Running

Windy and cold made for a miserable run yesterday. I did a figure 8 loop - the first half with Larry, we went reverse around work, then up Thomas road to the bitch. I did a 'pickup' mile on Thomas - although it was only around 7:40, then the bitch. And that was just the start. I then headed back towards work and did the normal reverse loop. It was cold, windy and shaffy. I finished it in 1 hour 4 minutes - probably about 7.8 miles. That counts for my long run. I'll try and do 4 miles at a 7:20-7:30 pace on Friday.

I'm still trying to document training plans - here is the Brooks 'less is more' from RW last Dec. Pro: shorter long runs, Con: running 6xweek. Maybe worth a go next fall.

Kick'n It

Made it out today for the first intervals of the year: 4x800s off track on Tyler and the Jupiter loop. They felt hard - as intervals should - and my groin is in pain right now. I'm suppose to do a tempo tomorrow - but may swap it out for the 'long' run since it'd only be 8 miles and that sounds easier than 4 miles fast right now. Injury aside, it is good to be runnin hard again and on my way with the first race training of the Spring season.
