Error. File not found.

not the best training week.  Monday was busy, so I didn't make it out.  Learned a family member had altz that night.  Next morning my daughter somehow got the back of her earring stuck in the hole.  Missed all of work.  Made it out for nice run Wednesday, but lost my goggles and didnt swim Thursday - which sucks.  Ran today, but eq mileage way down for the week.  Worked kinda stinks now.

Closing out a winter week.

Finished the week with the normal run Thursday, and then another 1000 in the pool Friday.  Did the Jay Cardiello Runners World workout today.  Kills the legs in a good way.  It felt like a cold week.  Winter is really a settling in.  Still trying to coax my weight down.  Made it down to 161 Friday, but these weekends are tough.  To much eating out and not enough calorie burn.

Winter wind

We've managed to dodge the snow this year, but the last two days were very cold and windy, so I headed to the pool for some short sessions: 1100 and 1000.  I hope to get out for a run today.

3 day weekend

So last week finished with two runs a no two swims.  The bike I had planned for yesterday never materialized.  Finished with the bob Harper strength today.  Weight down to 162.  My goal now is 157.  I'd be happy with that.  The swimming does make me feel stronger.  I forgot how complementary it is to running.  Knee still doesn't feel great.  I may only do one run next week.

Swimming!

I'm off to a decent start this week.  Did 1000 on Monday and 1300 today at the MIT pool.  Today's felt pretty good.  Yesterday I did the normal run loop in under 37 minutes.  A solid 3 minute improvement over last weeks slog run.  Tomorrow I hope to run again, hope the wind goes away.

More swimming and the first run of 2016

Finished the work week with another short swim: 800 at a crowded pool.  I ended up in the 'fast' lane because the other 3 lanes were pretty full.  Although a short workout - i wore me out pretty good - kind of a 'tempo' swim.  Do those exists?  I biked into work Friday, but left my bike there at the end of the day.  I did my first run over lunch.  The normal 4.7 miles.  Not a bad week - I did something significant every day!

Crossed Up

So the new year has brought a renewed emphasis on cross training.  I'm still trying to give my knee a break - so I have the swim thing going.  I spent some time this last weekend trying to adjust my bike seat - since biking should be good on the knees - and today I went out for about 14 miles.  Knee felt fine - which is good - but god do I not like biking.  My ass hurts after about 30 minutes, my neck/shoulder area gets tight and today my feet were cold.  Just not something I enjoy...Nevertheless, I hope to try and start the too work commute next week and augment my swims.  I may try and run either tomorrow or Friday.  I think the knees have had a good long rest.  Hoping 1 or 2 days a week should be good for the next two months, then i'll ramp up to 3 days and longer runs.

Knees 1: running 0

So I broke down and bought the pool pass for the month.  I did my first swim since the summer, about 20 minutes and I think 700 whatever's.  They had the long length which I think is 50 each way. I quit when the masters swim class started smoothing us to one lane.  Hopefully I can drastically reduce my running and go into full cross training mode this winter.  I hope to bike into work when the cold and snow isn't so bad, and swim every day possible.  Hopefully after a month or two, the knees, ankle, back issues will be resolved by then.

New Year, no Runs...

I'm sitting on the couch listening to my sick 9 year old sing 'hear comes Santa Claus' in the bath.  It's a priceless moment - I wish I could bottle it.  We just finished a 5 day visit to my relatives in Arizona, and she probably managed to grab one of the many viruses floating around the interior of the plane.  I decided not to run at all during the vacation.  I did manage to use the gym 4 times though to work on strength.  Mostly upper-body since I'm really trying to give my knees some 'nothing time'.  Remarkably, they still feel a little sore in the morning and going up and down stairs.  Not really sore-sore - more like a vague 'i can feel them sore'.  Ideally, they will get to a point where I don't have to worry about them.

The knees are one sore point, my lower back is always off and on sore - as far back as I can remember.  I just did some lower back stretching.  Then I decided to do my knee stretches, then my hamstring stretches.  Then I felt guilty for not doing some upper body work.  That is the problem with trying to address weak points - you realize you have many of them - and it gets to be a lot of work to get to all of them.  I didn't even mention the weight.  I was watching calories the month before the break, and manged to push 165 down to 162, only to return home from Arizona back up to 165.  I am a pretty thin guy - and consider 160 to be my 'normal' weight - but I would like to hit the next half marathon at 155 and stronger - 10 pounds can make a huge difference - but it certainly is hard to get back to normal after the holidays - stubborn pounds these - especially over the holidays with no running to help to the calorie count.

Oh well.  Maybe need to delay the start of 2016 (running) for another week.  It'll be two weeks next Tuesday - 3 weeks did the trick before the marathon last time - so I'll have to see how they feel Monday.
