About Last Week...

One week -> one run.  Not a great way to train for a race.  In my defense, it was a busy week: Sunday->Ski, Monday -> nothing, Tuesday-> run, Wednesday-> travel, Thursday->snow!, Friday->nothing - but too icy to run, Saturday->more skiing.  So the bad news is that I'm not working out, the good news is that I'm getting better on the slopes.  I did get in two runs today and yesterday to kick-off this week - but I probably won't run in Jersey for the remainder of the week.  Hopefully the snow will f'n stop and I can get back into a rhythm next week.  I really need to do some intervals and longer runs.

More Graphs

So I forgot to mention in my last update that I finished last week fairly strong.  I had 2 good swims Monday and Thursday - each included a solid 1000 meter swim.  This was one of my goals doing the month swim pass.  I managed 11 uses (10 swims, 1 indoor run) over 5 weeks.  I'll probably delay getting another pass until March - since I can't use it next week (work schedule) and February is a short month.

I also managed 2 runs - a short icy run which kinda sucked on Tuesday, and a 4.7 miles (normal loop) yesterday - which also sucked - but at least it felt like a real workout.

Finally - taking another look at my weight loss efforts is a R 'changepoint' plot.  These are recognizable from financial analysis - and is maybe better at identifying the 'steppy' feel of monitoring weight - which probably recognizable to people that have decided to diet.  Here, a solid 2 weeks goes by before the algorithm sees the first break-point - i'm guessing this is a fairly general effect and one of the reasons people who struggle with weight have difficulty early on.  I know I was cutting calories effectively - but weight really does fluctuate a bit - making 'success' difficult to see early.  Then - after the first 'success', another difficult plateu.  Probably 24 days or so before this second cliff breaks and encouraging 'loss' is seen.

Anyway - nice to see, and some very easy to plug-in-play R packages.

My Weight

I really beefed-up over the holidays - so I've been watching the calories and have this nice plot after 6 full weeks.  The goal was about 1/2 lb./week - but I think with regular exercise - I'm actually a little ahead of that.  Graph using R/ggplot::

p <- aes="" dat="" factor="" font="" ggplot="" week="" wgt="">s

Well, pasting R into blogger doesn't seem to translate well - probably the html.  I can probably make it more pretty.  May update this post...

Sick and Snow.

Last week wasn't the hottest.  I had a head-cold so I stuck to the pool - 2 short swims.  This week isn't much better: 2 more swims (1000 meters +).  Got a short run in Tuesday, maybe squeeze one in tomorrow - but boy is it hard to workout with the snow days - and icey sidewalks.  Fortunately we've been getting our ski on - and are hitting Sunappee this weekend.  Bonus - we get to watch the Sochi olympics.  Did you know Sochi is a short 12 hour drive from Mt. Aratat in Turkey.  After reading Declare (multiple times), I can't help but think what covert operations these games is a cover for.
